2009 is the year of the ninth Centenary of the death of Leon and Castilla's King Alfonso VI (1065-1109). For this reason, in 2005 the Sahagun city council (Leon), town where his mortal remains lie, boosted the creation of an Expert Committee in charge of the celebration's organization. So far this Committee has been developing an ambitious working plan in order to reach this target, besides to study, restorate and promote the Sahagun's monastery, one of the most important centers in the European Middle Ages.
